FAQs

Translating your app

What do I need to do first?

Decide on your languages. If you need help or advice, just get in touch. When you have your resources ready, simply send them to us using our quote form.

How do I extract the strings (text) from my app?

You will need to extract your strings from your code into a nice string file. Read our guide on the KB for help. We can extract .xib strings for you, you don't have to.

How long does translation take?

Because every project is different in size and nature, we'll give you a time estimate when you receive your quote. If you are in a hurry, let us know and we'll see what we can do!

What if I don't know my word count?

We will do all that for you! We have tools that can export text from XIBs in a jiffy and cut through your .strings files to give you an accurate word count. Where possible, we'll also remove duplicates.

What help do Applingua's translators get?

We create a project briefing, including screenshots, so translators get what the app is about. Where possible, translators also download the app before translation.

How does Applingua handle future updates?

We keep a record of your strings and, using our tools, we check for changed or new text. We then quote you on just what's new, so you never pay more than you should.

Do you translate Android apps? Websites?

Yes! We're the iOS and OSX specialists, but we also translate many Android apps!

Does pricing change with word count?

No. Pricing is per word and all languages are charged the same. Very big projects can be discussed at quote stage. There is currently no minimum charge per language.

What do I do if I'm not happy with my localization?

We try our utmost to make sure this doesn't happen! If you do receive feedback from your users, be sure to forward this on to us and we'll do everything to fix it as soon as possible.

Payment

When do I pay?

You will receive an invoice from us via email on project completion. Projects greater than $4000 will be split and part payment will be taken upfront.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Payment should be made via PayPal or Bank Transfer. If you do not have a PayPal account, payment can be made using a credit card on the PayPal website.

What are the payment terms?

Payment should be received within 14 days of the invoice's issue date. If this cannot be met, please let us know and we can sort something out.

Are there educational discounts?

We offer a small educational discount given at our discretion. Please contact us for more info.

Privacy

Are my strings safe?

Projects are never disclosed outside of those working with Applingua. Freelance contractors, such as translators, are on a need-to-know basis only. All translators have agreed to a NDA.

Can you sign an NDA?

Sure. If you have the next big thing we are happy to sign a separate NDA. Simply send this via email when you contact or via a service like EchoSign. We can also discuss our translators doing the same.

I don't want my app icon featured on Applingua

That's no problem. We will always ask for permission before listing your app icon on our website.
